Hey peeps I noticed something…
So barlee posted those amazing sheith sketches earlier and I noticed something.
Shiro has the outline of what looks like two stripes on his grad uniform. Which of course we knew from the flashbacks in s6 but now look at Keith.
He also has what appears like two stripes on his cadet uniform. Interesting right?
In this shot you can see the lines more clearly as both Shiro and Keith having two stripes on their uniforms.
This could imply that Shiro must have gotten his third stripe before the Kerberos mission and hadn’t been a third stripe grad student for too long before going missing?
And that could also mean Keith must be in the same level as Matt? Or he had just gotten his second stripe before Shiro left?
And Matt could have graduated first and was about to start his grad program once he came back from Kerberos like Shiro did?
‘Cause we know Hunk, Lance, and Pidge had two stripes at the start of s1 (well Pidge hacked her way in but that’s besides the point) and everyone assumed Keith got kicked out of the Garrison before the Trio got their second stripe.
But it looks like Keith DID succeed in obtaining his second stripe but lost Shiro and through his grief took his frustration out on Iverson who definitely didn’t help his mental state with whatever he said about Shiro.
Either way now we know what stripe Keith had in that Holt Family flashback.
Keith had two stripes and Shiro must have just gotten his third one right before the Kerberos mission.

throughout the series, Shiro has done some pretty amazing things, and i’ve pointed at some of those things and said “that seems magical, i’m just saying”. and usually people go “haha good ol’ Berry back on the crack theories again” - but then later in the show we get Allura doing the exact same thing, but in a context that specifically frames it as Altean magic or alchemy. this has happened so many times now that i get to compile a list of things that Allura has done in a magical context that Shiro has also done, at some point:

the Eye Glow

i talk about this magical Eye Glow thing so much i should just rename my blog ‘ask me about eye glows’, and i’ve already compared Shiro’s Eye Glow with Black to Alfor’s Eye Glow with Red in 3x07 (see {here} and {here}). S6 gave us a scene of Allura doing the same thing - but this time, it was specifically framed as something magical. it happens when Allura supercharges Voltron with her Altean magic, and calls on the Paladins to lend her their energy. once she’s done this, she is able to command Voltron (”form sword!”) and create an alchemy circle centred around Voltron’s heart:

so alongside the fact that (a.) King Alfor, known Sacred Altean, did the same Eye Glow as Shiro; (b.) Pidge didn’t do it when she bonded with Green; (c.) Keith {also didn’t do this in S6, but rather Shiro did it through Keith when he helped Keith make Black’s wings}; and (d.) Allura, another Sacred Altean, did the exact same glow with the exact same framing – you can add the fact that when Allura did this, it was presented as a magical power-up that allowed her to use her alchemy through Voltron.

and like… Shiro did this Eye Glow at the end of S2 when he unlocked Black’s wings, and {i said at the time i thought it was magical}, but dude… D U D E.

Shiro did this in 2x13 when he used the black bayard to form the Blazing Sword, and it looks like a flood of quintessence/energy running through the cockpit. Allura does a very similar thing in 4x06 when she’s supercharging Voltron for the first time with her Altean magic.

up until S6, we hadn’t seen Blazing Sword since Shiro formed it in 2x13, using the black bayard (and making the cockpit light up). i used to think Blazing Sword was a Shiro-only weapon, but then Allura formed it in the sequence where she’s using her magic. this is the same sequence in which she does the Eye Glow. this makes me think the Blazing Sword is actually a magical Altean weapon.

there are some other things that Shiro has done throughout the series that i think might be magical - {i have a whole list here} - but these three are things that (a.) Allura has definitely also done; and (b.) when Allura did them, the show presented them as something magical involving Altean alchemy. we don’t have an in-canon explanation for how Shiro was able to do these things; he does them and people say “that’s cool!” or “how did you do that?” but Shiro never knows how, and the show just lets it slip by without comment. but the fact that Allura later does similar things in her arc about discovering her Altean alchemy makes me think we are headed for a reveal about Shiro’s Altean heritage and his own gifts.

Why is Kallura great?

Because if Keith and Allura would be together (which they will probably be in the future) then it would be a character development for Keith (and for Allura,too but i will make a separate post for Allura)

Keith, the boy who had trust issues, who thought that nobody will ever love him, who was scared to care about people bc everybody left him in the end…he learnt to trust others, he realized that he’s loved and that he’s cared for

Keith, the boy who never thought that Allura will like him, who thought that the girl that he actually admires hates him, who thought that Allura will never be friend with him bc of his galra heritage…he didn’t just win Allura’s friendship, but he also won her love which he doesn’t think he deserves it.

Keith, the boy who never thought about getting the girl, who never tried to “win” Allura, who thought that Allura is way out of his league…he got the girl.

Keith, the boy who never thought he would be happy…he got happiness.He has a family and people that care about him and he has Allura, the single person that never stopped believing in him, even when he stopped.The girl that was there for him and that fought for him.The girl that never gave up on him.

So don’t tell me that Kallura is problematic or awful.This ship is the most beneficial ship for the characters, for the story, for Keith’s character development.

Just imagine yourself having a person there for you who fought for you, who never gave up on you, who believed in you even when you didn’t.Just imagine having a person that loves you, even tho you never thought somebody would ever fall for you bc you don’t see anything good in yourself.Imagine that you finally have someone who didn’t leave you when they saw your bad parts.Imagine having the person that you loved but who you thought was waaaay out of your league.

Having that person would completely change your life.Because now you have something to always go to.Something good,something you never expected to have.

And that’s exactly Allura for Keith.Allura is the good in his life and seriously, doesn’t Keith deserve happiness and everything great?

The words that stick with him, the ones that ring true for him, have all come from a place of love.

“Patience yields focus.”

Krolia and Keith are both very private people. Given time to reflect and think, to really understand what’s important to them, they’re able to gain this inner calm and strength of will. They may not say very much, but the words they speak to those they love come from a very deep and personal place.

The way he looks at Keith sometimes is very interesting to me. The way his gaze lingers on keith even when external stimuli should be grabbing his attention.

The way he looks at Keith as though, even though he’s in the position to be looked up to, he really and truly admires keith and how he’s grown up to be who he is.

I know we’ve all been talking nonstop about the scene with Keith’s return in The Colony, but that’s really where it comes to a head for me. Shiro has no questions about Keith’s unexpected companions, doesn’t seem to process Keith’s warning about Lotor. He just… can’t take his eyes off him. He speaks only to ask Keith how he is, tell the others to calm down, and turn the conversation back to Keith to acknowledge Keith’s appearance has changed. It’s just… really sweet and I can’t get over it. We all like to obsess over details in this fandom and while I’m NOT of the opinion that every single little thing/parallel/clue we find is intentional, I think the writing and animation here is really meant to portray a truly flabbergasted Shiro. He’s been admiring Keith for his growth and for the person he is for so long, and now suddenly there’s this beautiful man in front of him and he’s understandably flustered!

Then there’s this…

The way the clone swallows that moment and turns it into “Just let go, Keith,” instead of firing back with something cruel and personal makes me think that deep down, Shiro wants so badly to be able to respond to Keith’s words, so much that his clone programming falters. Hopefully he gets to acknowledge it in s7!

So I wanna talk a little bit about Keith’s personal growth as a leader and how grounded he is this season, because I absolutely love it and how it shows how his recovery from personal trauma through the development of a strong relationship with his mother helped him mature in ways that he might not have been able to achieve without her presence.

“I left you once. I’ll never leave you again,” Krolia says when she meets Keith, and though he doesn’t know it at the time, she means it— and she stays. It’s the start of the establishment of a foundation and the kind of solid relationship Keith has never once had in his life, that’s going to change his life forever.

Because Keith is the product of the kind of emotional trauma and abandonment that you wouldn’t want to wish on your worst enemy, and despite his natural talent as a paladin, his drive, and his focus, it isn’t until he has a chance to reconnect with his mother and heal the holes and gaps he’s had in his life that he’s truly able to unlock the potential and confidence that has been buried within him until now.

Won’t go into details, but I know what it’s like to feel alone and lost as a youth and have that mentor or close friend who never gave up on you and loved you unconditionally during the toughest times in your life. Shiro’s just such a good person, and so is Keith largely thanks to him, and I’m just glad they are always looking out for each other when they need help. Oh man this is a really good question and one that I know a lot of people are asking. With Shiro back and Keith have grown into his own strength, who will pilot the Black Lion in Season 7?

Obviously there will be no way to know until Season 7 is out. (Though maybe we will get a glimpse in the Season preview at SDCC) But there are also just so many ways this could go and I highly expect it will be an interesting twist no matter what we get.

First of all, I do not think that we will see Shiro and Keith co-piloting the Black Lion. I strongly believe that they would not be in the same lion at the same time, for one. Every single time we have more than one person in a lion, there is a very specific reason for it. And all serious combat missions have been performed with each Paladin in their own Lion. There is also the powerful story-telling tool of colours. Each Paladin has their own colour and their personality has synced up with their lion’s since day one. When all of the characters were shifted around, the colour combination became /wrong/ and everything has really felt sort of off since Season 3.

I’m kind of with Keith though, honestly. I don’t /want/ anyone but Shiro to pilot the Black Lion. It’s not that Keith is in any way, shape, or form a lesser leader. But when Shiro is at the head of the team, everything just feels /right/.

Shiro has such an amazing connection with the Black Lion that it literally SAVED HIS SOUL when he died and stored him away so that he wouldn’t be permanently lost. While Keith has certainly shown his ability to be an excellent leader and has even unlocked a lot of the potential within the Black Lion, it was always with Shiro’s help.

So what are some of the options we have to go with then? Because we now have one extra pilot than lions which will leave someone sitting out no matter what.

Idea 1) - Shiro needs time to recover and Keith continues as the pilot of the Black Lion with Shiro’s support in the background.

I mean shit, Shiro /died/. That sounds pretty freaking traumatic to me. Couple this with the knowledge Kuron will be passing on, and having Shiro fully catching up on everything that has progressed. Plus the fact that he/Kuron tried to kill Keith and threatened the safety and cohesion of the whole team. Shiro is probably pretty freaking overwhelmed. A lot of shit went down. The very steadfast guidance and gentle compassion combined with the nearly frightening ferocity invoked whenever his team was threatened was used to make Shiro an absolutely terrifying opponent to those who loved and respected him so much.

And let’s not forget one of the most impactful moments from the entire Season:

There is a very real chance that Shiro needs some time to recover and process everything that has happened and will spend a lot of time supporting from the background.

Idea 2) The Paladins return to their original Lions and resume their original roles

This is sort of a tough one. This would feel /right/ but there are also a lot of things that would feel /wrong/ with this too. For one, Allura is an excellent pilot and desires strongly to be a more active member of the team. It would seem unfair to push her out without this being her choice.

Putting Lance back in the Blue Lion, doesn’t feel terrible, as he really does connect with that and I feel that Lance’s character growth and progression has been much more on a personal level than trying to mesh with the Red Lion. Keith will always be the more raw and instinctual fighter of the team.

But what about the Black Lion? As I mentioned earlier, Shiro just feels right piloting the Black Lion for multiple reasons. He is still the leader (?) and he still appears to have the closest connection to the Black Lion. But Keith has also gone through so much growth with the Black Lion that it doesn’t feel wrong for him to pilot the Black Lion either.

I just have so many mixed feelings about this one. Like I originally stated, it would both feel very /right/ and also sort of /wrong/ at the same time.

Idea 3) We see the introduction of the White Lion

We’ve seen the White Lion brought up (which was actually an additional lion in the original show long ago) more than once. And oh man have I seen some great fan art with ideas of either Allura or Shiro piloting the White Lion.

This would be a great addition to the team, allowing everyone who has the skill and connection with the Lions to pilot one. I believe that the most suited outcomes would either be:

A) Allura gets the White Lion. As a sort of nod to the Castle of Lions, and her deep connection with her Altean heritage and all she’s learned, this would be really cool! This would also really be /her/ Lion which I feel would be a wonderful thing for Allura. So far she’s done wonderful piloting the Blue Lion. But Blue still feels so much like Lance’s Lion. And seeing Allura finally making her own solid connection with the secret Lion would be SO COOL. In this case we would likely see the rest of the Paladins return to their original Lions.

B) Shiro pilots the White Lion. We’ve got the white hair all over. And this would make a really interesting Yin-Yang sort of dynamic with him and Keith. This would be cool, and I imagine that the current standing with the Lions would be what would result from this, with Keith piloting the Black Lion. However, while this is interesting, I still think the White Lion would be much more suited to Allura. Giving Allura her own Lion that was hers from the start, and with Shiro’s undeniably amazing bond with the Black Lion, this would feel sort of weird.

Idea 4) SOMETHING ELSE

Allura could step away to work on the next Castle of Lions, just as she worked on the ship with Lotor. But honestly, I think that would sort of take things away from Coran. Just as Sokka came into his own strengths outside of the benders in Avatar, I feel that the Castle of Lions ultimately became Coran’s big strength. It’s his baby and his legacy. Allura /wanted/ to fly a Lion and I feel like she fits very well.

It’s possible other things could happen. Shiro and Keith could even co-pilot the Black Lion directly or take turns if Keith still wants to work with the Blade of Marmora.

This is one where we’re just going to have to wait and see XD Though I would personally love:

-Coran becomes in charge of a newly created Castle of Lions created as an amazing mesh of Altean knowledge and skills coupled with Human ingenuity and insight that hasn’t been seen yet in the universe as a whole

-The Voltron Paladins return to their original Lions and their connections have never been stronger

-While searching for what she can do next, Allura discovers the White Lion and brings a whole new dynamic for the team

HNNN I can’t wait for Season 7 for SO MANY REASONS!!!

I love this!!! Steve Ahn has drawn Keith doodling a few times (as shown below), and they’re always these very simple, sweet little scribblings. Like, he doesn’t do these complex backgrounds or portraits, he does these cute little doodles of his friends and it’s?? The sweetest thing?? Because I honestly think he genuinely doesn’t care about anything besides just having fun with it. It makes him happy!

And in that one scene where the other paladins are all crowding to watch you can tell seeing Keith draw his cute little pictures makes them happy too :’))

Like everyone else I am absolutely in love with this scene and all the weight it carries. Tons of amazing, poetic meta has been written about this. Keith’s soft look, full of love and also a calm acceptance and determination. Wanting Shiro to be the last thing he sees as he lets the light engulf them, never letting go. At this point, he thinks everyone else is dead. They are alone in the universe, and Keith still chooses Shiro and chooses for them to be together. This is a scene that will haunt me forever, in the best way.
But my actual favourite thing about this, is what comes after and how it transitions into the next episode. As Keith closes his eyes he thinks back on Shiro one last time. Specifically, he thinks back on Shiro’s promise, and Shiro’s plea.
Shiro promises he’ll be there for him, forever, but also asks Keith to always believe in himself. And once again, Keith’s determination rekindles. The universe has been trying to tear him and Shiro apart from the start, and here Keith opens his eyes, ready to fight it all over again. Ready to defy the stars. To save them both.
And next episode where do we start? Keith opening is eyes in the astral plane, answering Shiro’s call.
Keith’s determination, Keith’s love, led him back to Shiro, and led Shiro back to him in turn. Keith and Shiro found and saved each other.
Their bond was never a weakness that would lead to their fall, like Honerva thought. It was a strength that made them soar.

Voltron Season 5

Just another thing I thought I’d put out there about Season 5 Kallura (because apparently I talk now), is not to be discouraged. Lotor charming Allura to get what he wants is ABSOLUTELY traditional Voltron canon. In the process it is also 110% canon lore that he becomes infatuated with her. The whole Keith-Allura-Lotor love triangle was a hallmark in the original series as well as throughout other reboots. Lotor charms, whereas Keith loves. What’s happening is exactly what I’ve been waiting for and guys, I cannot express how excited I am about this. If the team pulls this off right (I am confident that they will), then it’s going to be fantastic.

Although Keith had limited screen time this season, every second of it was weighted heavily. None of it was just fodder; unlike Coran, who while he had more screen time, was otherwise impactless. Keith absolutely made impacts and I think that speaks volumes. On that note, I would also like to point out that it made room for more Lance development–and I am SO here for that. The show has been so focused on Keith’s personal development (lordy has he come far), but now it’s time to shift our view more predominantly onto Lance. We’ve watched him grow throughout the seasons, but now it’s HIS turn to really blossom. And idk about you guys, but I love the dynamic and how much Lance has matured. He’s a great guy and it’s time that the grandois ego steps aside to let his greatness shine through. It’s about damn time that is was recognized in a way deserving of him. A lot of major changes were packed into this season.

Not to mention, Allura became the White Lion, and both Shiro and Lance have noticed that something’s off. Clone Shiro was NOT specifically confirmed, as the Galra could have planted something in the real Shiro’s head as part of a subterfuge project, but the evidence DOES point even more towards a clone, leaving us to speculate. Until it’s stated directly, it isn’t 100% confirmed canon, although at this point it is easy to assume.

But I digress…

What I originally wanted to say, was that Kallura fans should not be discouraged. Season 5 didn’t “murder Kallura in cold blood”. What’s happening is absolutely traditional Voltron canon lore, and you should not be discouraged. Sit back and enjoy the ride as everything unfolds.

TL;DR: Don’t be discouraged about Kallura; what’s happening is traditional canon lore, Keithy is not down for the count, and Season 6 is going to be spectacular.

I see a lot of people jumping on the Lotura bandwagon, but I’m not convinced - my walls are 100% up when it comes to Lotor.

He’s a guy who views his people as masses to manipulate, who cut down one of his brainwashed comrades without thinking of alternatives that might have saved her, and despite his seemingly forward-thinking efforts, he still remains so close-minded that he refused to accept the fact that Honerva and Haggar are one and the same. He chose conflict over compassion against the white lion, the exact opposite of Allura, and I think that core difference will cause them to butt heads sooner rather than later.

The writers have mentioned that if there was going to be a romance in the series, then it would be a slow-burn that happens naturally over the course of the series. If people are reading Allura and Lotor’s interactions as them being in love, then it’s happening way too suddenly, less than half a season! Allura may be compassionate towards Lotor, she may feel empathy and comfort in the idea that Lotor is good at heart and even one of her own…but we don’t know what Lotor has and hasn’t told her. Did he explain why the WL rejected him? I think not. Did he tell her that he killed one of his closest comrades and abandoned the rest without looking back? I think not.

Lotor wants Allura on his side, now more than ever seeing as she knows the secrets he so badly desires - but at this point I don’t think it’s anything romantic. Maybe he will develop genuine feelings for her - in fact I hope he does, if only to replicate the age-old Keith-Allura-Lotor triangle as OP mentioned. Lotor’s current relationship with Allura is different than previous incarnations, but I really think this is just another ‘history rhymes’ situation where certain details are unique, but the core elements remain intact, just like the rest of VLD has been in regards to referencing the older versions.

And speaking of ‘handsome white-haired prince who sweeps princess Allura off her feet’, well… I can’t help having flashbacks to this guy:

But it would soon turn out to be a trap set by Haggar and Zarkon to capture the princess and her lion. In VLD, it’s entirely possible the writers have amalgamated this storyline with Lotor’s as he works to win the princess over for his own gain.

So, even if Allura was a little but smitten with Lotor… I’m not expecting it to last long.

I didn’t realize I needed this addition until I read it. I am honestly so happy I’m not the only one.

The thing about Lotor is that he’s the definition of machiavellian. He has had to survive–nay, thrive–for centuries on his own within the ranks of Zarkon’s Galran empire. Marked as weak for his half-blood, only making him more of a target throughout his life. This man knows how to get what he wants, by any means possible, and most importantly–how to bide his time. Lotor is an exceptionally well-educated man who is the type to use words like surreptitious and perspicacity in casual conversation. He excells in both arts of coercion as well as persuasion. We cannot for a second believe that he thinks like a “normal” person, because he doesn’t. His mind is of an entirely different calibre. It is also what makes him such a complex character; why I both adore and mistrust of him.

It would be easy to feel sorry for him, to empathise with his hardships, but that is exactly what he wants. A person doesn’t suddenly go from a calculating and cold strategist with the ability to adapt flawlessly to any given situation (including diplomatic), to an open bleeding heart please love me I had no mommy :(

It just doesn’t happen lol. To think otherwise would be infantile.

For all we know, he could inly be telling partial truths to get what he wants. Like that planet he oversaw for a year, for example. For all we know, it could be a complete and utter lie; totally fabricated appeal to Allura’s more… Shall we say… Altean, senses. It could also be 100% the truth. Alternatively, parts of it could be true, whereas other bits are stretched and/or fabricated. You just. Don’t. Know. You cannot take Lotor at face value. His hidden look of disappointment (not the kind you’d expect but something more… Malevolent) at the end of the last episode–which I’m PRETTY SURE Shiro and Lance saw because they were giving him a weird look–only further cements this for me.

Lotor is not to be trusted in any sense of the word.

Note: For any Lotor fans who may feel attacked, I want you to know that this is NOT Lotor hate. I fucking love this guy. He is such a complex and intelligent character (not to mention easy on the eyes 😉). There are no absolutes with him, and he keeps you on your toes. However, just because I adore him, does NOT mean that I trust him. You can love a character without viewing them through rose-coloured glasses.

And yes, just to add, I really love Lotor as well!! He’s a fantastic character - arguably the best written in the series, at least for now - and I’m on the edge of my seat wondering what move he’ll make next. But I know. I know it won’t be for the good of team Voltron, and certainly not Allura. It will be for himself, and if it happens to help our protagonists out in the meantime it’s just a happy coincidence at best and carefully calculated scheme to draw them even closer at worst.

I know Season 6 did a number on all of us, what with announcing that Shiro had, in fact, died in Season 2. I don’t think any of us expected it to end that way. But as a result I’ve seen a lot of posts that are outright dismissing Keith’s ascension to the position as leader of the team and the pilot of the Black Lion, that it was all Shiro’s doing from inside the lion.
Thing is, the show writers done a good job of pointing out to us that he is, in fact, leader material. Even in the first few episodes it’s apparent. Even at the reception on Arus, when Allura is speaking about the team she is looking in his direction. He speaks out when others dare not. And he takes the lead when things get hairy.
In fact, going back further we are aware that he is the one who has tracked down the location of the Blue Lion, save Shiro from the crash site, and he is the first to approach it when they fall into the collapsed cave.
When the team is assigned their lions more emphasis is placed on his than any others. The Red Lion is the right hand of Voltron, and important position. Theoretically it is given to the person who is “next up” as leader of the team.
We know that Shiro also wanted Keith to become the leader should the need arise. He reiterated this twice. This wasn’t just for Keith’s sake but also the audience’s. Foreshadowing is big in VLD and this is no exception.
We even have a sneak preview of Keith flying Black. He was able to fly a lion that had been severely damaged and grounded. Yes, it was to save Shiro. But as we’ve seen in previous episodes, lions are capable of saving their paladins independently. Black hadn’t awoken when Shiro was in dire straits.
Now we know he had some bumps in the road during the transition in Season 3, but we also see him pull through and work well with the team. It’s only the return of Shiro that puts him back in an uncomfortable position of being in his best friend’s seat.
However, we see his triumphant return in Season 6. Even though he’s been away for two years, he’s able to jump right back into the key position and fight Lotor’s ships effectively. When they open a wormhole to escape he executes an action that propels him into the hole before it closes.
Later– far from the team– it seems he won’t be able to get back to them in time to assist with the battle, yet the lion helps him unlock the ability to teleport to save them. We see Black face off with Lotor, whereas previously it faced off with Zarkon. That’s another hint of how the torch has been passed.
Back in episode 2 we see Shiro learning to “see” through Blacks’ eyes, which in itself is impressive. His eyes glow yellow to match the lion’s. Both are fueled by quintessence, which we’ve seen exists throughout the universe in every living thing.
But when his spirit is removed from the Black Lion it takes on a purple essence, as in the color of the astral plane.
Now when Keith is trying desperately to reach his teammates his hands glow purple, which means he’s either “borrowing” from Shiro, or it’s energy that he himself brought back from the other dimension. But let’s keep in mind that Shiro had trouble simply manifesting himself to Keith, so any energy he provided would be minimal. So while it might be a visual cue that Shiro is with him, it in no way indicates that Shiro himself is the reason the lion has this new capability.
We also see Keith’s face overlap the lions. In the past it had been a half and half shot, which indicates two separate halves of a whole. But by superimposing one over the other it gives the indication of two wholes as one. This would seem to hint at a complete connection, mind and soul.
Keith is the one shown piloting Black with every ounce of energy he has. He pushes it, and himself, as hard as is possible.
The other major point is that his eyes glow blue. When the comet that Voltron was made from lands we also see that same blue glow. So whatever the “magic” is that makes the giant robot tick is in Keith somehow. (*ahem* Altean Keith)
Much was made about Allura using Alchemy to remove Shiro’s essence from Black and put it in Kuron’s body. When she does so we see the purple light move through the ship into her body. But when she turns around her eyes are glowing blue, same as Keith’s. That is because of the power that she is using, the ancient Altean science.
We see that same knowledge transfer over to Voltron. After Keith’s return he recognizes that the ship can do more than they ever imagined– might I add these scenes were a great throwback to Defenders of the Universe! And those new capabilities all glowing a bright blue, not yellow as one would expect from quintessence. Keith and Allura together have made Voltron nearly unstoppable.
But, perhaps most importantly, is this scene. Since Shiro’s been back he hasn’t used his bayard, always relying on his Galra hand. Granted “real Shiro” never had possession of it longer than a few minutes, but Kuron could have used it had he so chosen.
During the fight between Keith and Shiro, Keith’s blade is locked by a sword formed by the Galra arm, not the bayard. However, once Keith hears that his teammates may have been killed the bayard forms in his hand. This is huge considering it was still in Shiro’s possession at that time.
Hopefully people reading this understand that this is in no way a knock on Shiro. I simply felt compelled to make this because I’m tired of Keith being kicked around by the fanbase then accused of being given preferential treatment. If you disagree that’s to be expected. Go make your own post. Do not add your hate to this one.
Let the boy have his destiny.

If I may add a little something?
I’m pretty sure he’s the first paladin to hear a Lion actually speak to them. I don’t recall it mentioned before…
